A Message from
Ned Doffoney,
Ed.D.
President, Fresno City College
Once again, one of our sister colleges has been faced with an unimaginable tragedy. We feel very deeply for the families, the students and the community of Virginia Tech.
It’s just too difficult to understand and to comprehend how hard this is for a community. Colleges are social places, and when a social environment is fractured, it is important to heal that fracture. Fresno City College stands ready to provide any assistance to the Virginia Tech community as it is requested and needed. We will start the healing process within our college family by supporting Virginia Tech.
Fresno City College is committed to assisting our own students who are facing difficulties dealing with these events. Students who are following this tragedy and are emotionally impacted are encouraged to call the Psychological Services Office at 442-4600, ext. 8749. FCC staff may call the Holman Group’s Employee Assistance Program at 1-800-321-2843 for help.
I assure you that safety on campus is also a priority at Fresno City College. We are ever-vigilant in working with all the Police Services that are available to us. We have mutual aid agreements with regional law enforcement agencies that would quickly assist us if additional personnel were needed. The college’s Crisis Team is currently investigating a rapid communications system that would allow us to immediately send out emails, text messages and voice mails to the campus community in case of an emergency. We will not waver in our concern to provide the best security possible.
This Friday, April 20 we will unite to show our support for our friends at Virginia Tech. I invite you to join me for a wreath laying ceremony at 12 noon at the Veterans Peace Memorial on the Fresno City College campus.
The Virginia Tech family has asked us to support them by wearing their school colors of orange and maroon on Friday. Ribbons will be available on Friday at the President’s Office, the Public Information Office and at the College Activities Office.
If you have any questions, please call the College Activities Office at 265-5711.
