Fresno City College has a legacy of producing highly competitive men’s and women’s cross country teams, including an exceptional, State Champion. In 1999, Michael Kasahun earned that crown by finishing 19 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. He later received a full scholarship and starred at the University of Oregon.
A hallmark of the program has been the steady improvement of the individual runners under the guidance of Coach Bluth, who has over 30 years of collegiate coaching experience.
Coach Bluth’s athletes have enjoyed success wherever he has coached. II). In 1990, Coach Bluth led the women’s team at San Francisco State University to its first national ranking (NCAA Div II) in school history. Since 1991, he has been the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach at Fresno City College.
In 2006, the men’s team were Conference Champions, and placed second in the Nor-Cal Championships, Both Tony Pulido and Bobby Rodriguez earned J.C. All-American honors.
Fresno’s Woodward Park is one of the best known cross country courses on the West Coast. It is also the primary training grounds and home course for the Rams. The California Community Colleges State Cross Country Championships are annually staged here, as are other numerous championships, from the high school to the NCAA Div. I levels.
Our primary mission is to produce student-athletes who will eventually be as successful in life as they are on our athletic field.
