History
of FCC Women's Tennis
Fresno
City College women's tennis has had a major resurgence in
recent years and it came about in the late 1990's in a major
way. The Rams won back to back state titles in 1999 and
2000. The Rams have won six of the last seven Central Valley
Conference championships as well. In 2003, FCC shared the
title with Modesto at 7-1. Overall, the women's team was
11-3 in dual matches and lost to Chabot in the dual quarterfinals.
Nicole Sherfield won the singles title at the CVC tournament
and teamed with Michelle Ornellas for the CVC doubles title.
Five players qualified for individual postseason competition.
Prior to the recent upsurge, 1987 was the last time FCC
won a women's conference tennis title. To put the upsurge
in perspective, only the men's wrestling team has managed
to win recent back to back state titles.
The recent high degree of success in women's tennis was
guided by former coach Mark Belman. Marilyn Watts, who played
for him, has enhanced FCC's highly regarded statewide reputation.
Women's Tennis Coach: Joe Estacio

Fresno City College tennis fans here we are!! It took a little bit of time and some work but we have a solid group of ladies who make up the 2008 Ram’s tennis team. While the men’s team is graced with the talent of athletes from all over the globe, I am proud and happy to say that every single talented member is from our own Central Valley.
You know them and will recognize them because they graduated from local high schools such as, Memorial, Clovis West, Central, Edison, Fresno High, Sanger, Washington Union and Clovis High. Please get to know them because they are indeed working hard for us. Address them by first name like Jamie, Mari, Harpreet, Cortney, Zena, Shawna, Heather, and Monica.
They love big crowds, especially during home matches. Check out our home schedule and come out and support them. Our team is excited for the new season, dedicated at practice, eager to compete, and hungry to win. Show them the love and I guarantee you they will succeed. We’ll see you all out on the tennis courts.
