The Fresno City College (F.C.C) Ram’s wresting team is continuing it’s tradition by proving to be the best. Leading the Rams to another promising year is first year Fresno City College Head Wrestling Coach, Paul Keysaw.
The Fresno City Wrestling Program is not only rich in tradition but rich in the talent of its athletes. F.C.C has won a state championship in every decade since 1959. It has also had 45 hard working and exceptional state champions representing the Rams. 2001 was the last year accomplishing this great honor. Within the last 5 years the F.C.C Rams have finished in the Top 10 in the State of California. The Rams have also claimed 4 Division I All-Americans and numerous Division II and NAIA All-Americans. Most recently, 2005 Ram’s Sabi Singh won the State Championship weighing in at 125 pounds. These accomplishments make Fresno City College students and athletes proud.
While these 32 dedicated athletes pour their pointed energy on the mats, they are also learning how to achieve the next level. Higher wrestling divisions and higher education opportunities await future Ram Wrestlers. F.C.C. wrestling staff’s goal is to help provide their team with the tools they need to accomplish each athlete’s dream. Prepared to wrestle in a four year university, achieve a scholarship or be prepared in life. This tradition is what makes a F.C.C. wrestler a force to be reckoned with. Prepared!!
Being prepared is what Coach Keysaw is all about. Paul Keysaw, prior to joining the F.C.C. team, as the new Head Coach, was the Head Coach for Moorpark College. In those 10 years with Moorpark, Coach Keysaw was voted “Coach of the Year” three times, won the South Regional honor four times and the Western State Conference “Coach of the Year” five times. He guided the Raiders to state championships in 1997, 1999 and 2000 and was runner up in 2001, only falling in that year to the F.C.C. Rams. He also coached seven wrestlers to individual titles. His dual match record at Moorpark was 98-36.
As a competitor, Paul Keysaw was a Pennsylvania State High School Champion in 1986 and runner-up in 1985. He was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American placing 8th in 1990 and winning a national title in 1991 at 190 lbs.
He received his BA in Liberal Studies from CSU Bakersfield, 1991 and his MA in Curriculum/Instruction from CSU Bakersfield in 1995.
Coach Keysaw also brings his family back to the Valley; his wife of 10 years and Valley native, Kim, his son Zackary, 7, and his daughter Sydney, 5.
Cheer on the tradition! The Rams take to the mats in their gym for dual meets on Wednesday nights beginning at 7:00 pm. Check the website for upcoming meets.
