Please join us this year with some new changes for our Third Annual FCC Theatre Festival!
$250 per school includes all activities in our day long Theatre Program. There are eight openings for schools on a first come, first served basis. Each school can bring up to 40 students and observers.
We've added Monologues!
Each school is given one scene entry slot in the Contemporary Scene performance and five individual Contemporary Monologue performance slots. Theatre Arts faculty will judge all performances. Each scene is given a 15-minute slot for performance (including set up and tear down). There is not a limit on scene participants. Each monologue is given a 2-minute time limit (with a 15 second grace period). Theatre Faculty will give a critical response to each performance.
A Tech Team of four students from each school can compete in four event areas such as: Costume Quick Change, Lighting Focus, Prop Quick Change and “Sew On A Button”. You must register ahead for a time slot.
The Whale by Samuel D. Hunter. Directed by Charles Erven. With guest artist Brad Myers. Mature Themes and Language.
At 4pm we give out awards including but not limited to: 1st and 2nd place scenes in contemporary style, Best Actor and Actress in a scene, 1st and 2nd place awards for Best Monologue Performed by an Actress and Best Monologue Performed by an Actor. Other “outstanding performances” will be awarded. Also, we will provide a Tech Olympic Prize for 1st place and up to 3 scholarships to attend FCC in the Fall of 2018 ($400 each).
*Times are subject to change
Students cannot compete in contemporary scenes, monologues and tech olympics as the times will overlap. Each section is designed to serve different areas of strength to give as many students as possible a chance to participate. Scholarship Forms have been updated and must be completed prior to the festival. It now includes an instructor nomination and student questionnaire. Please print copies out for your deserving students that may be attending FCC in the Fall of 2018.
The Theatre Arts Department will also select up to 3 students to receive a $400 Scholarship each. To be eligible, the student must have the intention of attending Fresno City College as a Theatre Major in the Fall of 2018. This scholarship will be announced at the end of the awards presentation. The scholarship will be awarded in the fall after the student has registered for classes. Two alternates will also be chosen in the event the original winners decide not to attend Fresno City College. To be eligible graduating seniors should register in the lower lobby of the theatre when they arrive in the morning.
Students interested in technical theatre are encouraged to meet with the technical staff on the day of the festival and interview for the Technical Theatre Scholarship. For more information on this scholarship please contact Chuck Erven at 442-4600 ext. 8478.
Registration forms and fee must be returned no later than December 7, 2017.
This year we will only accept the schools that provide full information packets and registration fees by the due date.
Please email or mail your forms (and fee) to the address listed online. The spots will be filled on a “first come, first served” basis and we can only accommodate 8 schools. When we receive your registration fee by mail you will be emailed final registration and participation information (including performance times).
This year’s festival coordinators are Janine Christl and Chuck Erven. If you have questions, please call 442-4600 ext 8041.
We look forward to hearing from you.
