ARTISTIC VISION
On behalf of the dance faculty allow me to welcome you to the Dance Department at Fresno City College. The FCC Dance program focuses on dance as a fine art and offers training in modern, jazz, ballet, tap, Folklorico, composition and performance. Our program prepares students for rigorous training and academia upon completion of an A.A. degree in Dance. The dance department provides students with an educational environment in which the curriculum and opportunities to create, perform and critically analyze dance, produces students who are prepared to complete a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Dance at a four year institution of their choice. Unlike many colleges and four-year institutions in the Central Valley, this year we are proud to announce that our department is able to provide students with live piano accompanists for both the ballet and modern dance classes.
Courses are further enriched by guest artists and lecturers that visit the campus for master classes throughout the year. Outside guests not only develop the skills of gifted artists, but also broaden the minds of young choreographers and aspiring dancers. Our central California location offers both our faculty and students access to either Los Angeles or San Francisco in a matter of only a few hours. Members of the Fresno City Touring Ensemble (FCTE) tour annually to local high schools, throughout the community and to the American College Dance Festival for performances and lecture-demonstrations. The FCC dance department values diversity, ethnic heritages, and cultures. Our students receive an affordable, well-rounded education under a very knowledgeable, nurturing and dedicated dance faculty to direct them throughout their demanding program of study. FCC Dance faculty are encouraged to do scholarly research in dance as well as collaborate with artists from other departments to provide an innovative and creative environment. Students are drawn to the faculty for their kinesthetic awareness, technical accomplishment, creative support and aesthetic sensitivity. This method of training not only produces students who are intriguing artists but also powerful human beings dedicated to the enrichment of our ever-changing society. Dance is a powerful means of communication and the language of the human body. Emotions, societal views and personal outlooks are only a few areas that movement allows us to express our inner beings. I invite the Fresno community to join us in the celebration of movement through dance at Fresno City College.
