Radiographers Duties
Imaging examinations preformed
by, and accompanying responsibilities assigned to a radiographer
shall be at the direction of physicians qualified to request
and /or perform radiologic procedures.
Affiliation
You can earn a Certificate
in Radiation Therapy or a Certificate in Nuclear Medicine
from Loma Linda University by attending Fresno City College
campus. Contact the Loma Linda University coordinator at
FCC by calling (559) 244-2607. Visit Loma Linda University on the web.
Upon completion of the program
the radiographer shall be able to:
- Apply knowledge of anatomy,
physiology and radiographic techniques to accurately demonstrate
anatomical structures on a radiograph or other imaging receptor.
- Determines exposure factors
to achieve optimum radiographic techniques with a minimum of
radiation exposure to the patient.
- Evaluate radiographic images
for appropriate positioning and imaging quality.
- Apply the principles of radiation
protection for the patient, self and others.
- Provide patient care and comfort.
- Recognize emergency patient
conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid and basic life support
procedures.
- Evaluate the performance of
radiologic systems; know the safe limits of equipment operation
and report malfunctions to the proper authority.
- Exercise independent judgment
and discretion in the technical performance of medical imaging
procedures.
- Participate in radiologic
quality assurance programs.
Classes are conducted on the
Fresno City College campus. Students also attend classes at local
hospitals affiliated with the program for clinical experience.
An Associate in Science degree
will be granted upon successful completion of requirements for
graduation, which includes formal hospital training. The student
will be eligible to take the State licensing examination and
the national examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists upon successful completion of requirements for
graduation.
Admission Policy
Enrollment is limited in the
Radiologic Technology Program. There is no restriction as to
age, race or marital status. In order to qualify for admission
to the program, the applicant must have met all of the following
conditions:
Application Requirements
Minimum prerequisite requirements
for application to the Radiologic Technology Program follow:
- Have completed and submitted
an Academic Summary Form for the Radiologic Technology Program.
- Have graduated from high school
or have an average score of 45 on the General Educational Development
(GED) test.
- Have completed Biology 24,
Anatomy and Physiology (or equivalent), with a grade of C
or better. Biology 20, Human Anatomy, AND Biology 22 Human Physiology
may replace biology 24 with a grade of C or better
in each course.
- Have completed Applied Technology
11, Basic Electricity (or equivalent), with a grade of C
or better.
- Have attained a minimum cumulative
grade point average (GPA) of C+ (2.5) in completed
college work.
- Have no physical impairment
that would preclude the performance of all radiologic technology
duties.
- Be in good physical and mental
health.
Note: Prior to registration for the semester in which
the applicant is scheduled to take courses in Radiologic Technology,
the student must submit evidence of physical examination by a
licensed physician.
Per the direction of our clinical affiliates, the Radiology program is now required to obtain pre-program student background checks. You will be asked to sign a release that allows the check to occur. Additionally, the student is responsible for the fee (approximately $45.00).
Individuals having been convicted
of crimes must file a pre-application with the ARRT in order
to obtain a ruling on the impact of the convictions on their
eligibility for certification and registration. A conviction
of, a plea of guilty to, or a plea of nolo contendere (no contest)
to an offense, which is classified as a misdemeanor or felony,
constitutes a conviction for ARRT purposes. See program director
for pre-application form.
Academic Requirements
All program entry requirement
courses listed above must be completed with a grade of C
or better. In order to be eligible to take the State Licensing
Examination and the National Examination given by the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists, all other courses leading
to the associate degree must also be completed with a grade of
C or better.
Students in the radiologic
technology program must earn a C grade or better
(or a Credit grade when applicable) in all program
courses. Less than a C or a Credit grade
in any radiologic technology course requires that the course
be repeated in their entirety. Courses may be repeated only once.
Safe professional practice
is necessary for retention of students in the program. If a student
demonstrates that he/she is unsuited to the profession or is
not progressing satisfactorily based on the professional judgment
of the faculty, he/she may be asked to withdraw from the program.
Accreditation
The radiologic technology program
at Fresno City College is fully accredited by the Joint Review
Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). The
JRCERT is the only nationally accepted accrediting body in Radiologic
Technology.
