EDUC 30 - SURVEY OF EDUCATION
3 units, 3 lecture hours
ADVISORY: Eligibility for English 25 and 26 or English 53 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended.

Educational theory and practice for those interested in the American school system or considering career opportunities in the teaching profession. Educational history, philosophy, goals, school systems, current issues, and entry requirements to professional teaching programs. Field trips required. (Meets CSU requirements when combined with EDA 19.) (A, CSU)

EDUC 200A - CBEST PREPARATION: ENGLISH
.5 unit, 3 lecture hours, (3 weeks), (Repeats = 3), (Credit, No Credit), (Formerly Education 100 and 100A)
ADVISORY: Eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 and recommended.

A review of reading comprehension and essay writing, designed to assist students and teachers prepare for the CBEST. (A special class that facilitates measurable progress toward an education goal. [56030])

EDUC 200B - CBEST PREPARATION: MATHEMATICS
1 unit, 3 lecture hours, (3 weeks), (Credit/No Credit), (Repeats = 3), (Formerly Education 100 and 100B)
ADVISORY: Eligibility for Math 101 recommended.

A review of mathematics designed to assist students and teachers prepare for the CBEST. (A special class that facilitates measurable progress toward an education goal. [56030 c].)

EDUCATIONAL AIDE CLASSES

EDA 1 - TUTOR TRAINING
1 unit, 1 lecture hour, 1 lab hour
ADVISORY: Eligibility for English 25 and 26 or English 53 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended.

Combines the study of methods and materials for tutoring with supervised practice in applying the concepts, principles and methods in the process of conducting individual and small group tutorials. Designed for peer tutors working in college tutorial, math and English learning centers and for adult students employed or desiring future employment as educational or instructional aides or as teachers. (A, CSU)

EDA 6 - SURVEY OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
3 unit, 3 lecture hours

The role of the special education assistant in the training of the exceptional child. Vocational opportunities available.

EDA 7 - EDUCATIONAL AIDE TRAINING LEARNING DISABILITIES
3 unit, 3 lecture hours
Advisory: Eligibility for English 50 recommended for success.

Survey of the field of Special Education emphasizing the role of the Special Education assistant in training the learning disabled student.

EDA 19 - VOCATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE
1-4 units, (Repeats = 3)
PREREQUISITE: Must be enrolled in minimum of 7 units, including occupational work experience class, have a job directly related to the work experience class, and either be majoring in the field or be enrolled in a course directly related to the job.

Supervised employment from 5 to 20 hours per week, and one hour in class per week. The amount of college credit earned by the student is dependent upon the number of hours of work during the semester as follows:

One unit for minimum of 75 hours;
Two units for minimum of 150 hours;
Three units for minimum of 225 hours;
Four units for minimum of 300 hours. (A, CSU)

EDUCATIONAL AIDE/ PARAEDUCATOR CLASSES

EDAP 19 - WORK EXPERIENCE (COOPERATIVE), OCCUPATIONAL
1-4 units, (Repeats = 3)
COREQUISITE: Fall and Spring Semesters: Must be enrolled in a minimum of 7 units, including work experience. Summer Session: Must be enrolled in at least one other course. Supervised employment directly related to the student’s major. Offered under specific majors.

Success on the job, including interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills; office dynamics and adapting to change. Group interaction. Collaborative learning activities specific to educational aide/paraeducator. Learning objectives established specific to educational aide/paraeducator. Seventy-five hours of paid employment or 60 hours of volunteer employment per unit per semester. Maximum of 4 units per semester, 16 units total. May be repeated up to three times for not more than 16 units total. (A, CSU)
