2013 CACFP Mandatory Annual Training for Child Care Centers

The mandatory course for 2012-2013 CACFP has ended. The online course is now available as an elective course. If you have any questions, please call the Fresno City College Cal-Pro-NET Center at 559-489-2237.


The online course entitled Financial Management for agencies participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) will be offered from July 8 through August 31, 2013. This mandatory training is sponsored by the California Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division (NSD) through a collaborative partnership with the California Professional Nutrition Education and Training (Cal-Pro-NET) Center at Fresno City College (FCC).

Mandatory Participation:

Financial Management is the 2013 mandatory training course for child care centers. CACFP regulations require each agency participating in the CACFP ensure that at least one person with administrative responsibilities for the CACFP complete this state-agency provided training.

Note: Your agency has satisfied the 2013 annual mandatory training requirement if a representative of your agency attended the “Center Budgets: Overcoming Common Challenges” post-conference session offered by the CDE, NSD at the Child Care Food Program Roundtable 2012 Annual CACFP Conference on October 17, 2012 in San Diego, and has a Certificate of Completion from the FCC Cal-Pro-NET Center.

Successful completion of the Financial Management course is required to complete your agency's fiscal year 2013-2014 CACFP Annual Update which is due no later than August 31, 2013. If your agency does not successfully complete the mandatory training, your Annual Update will not be complete and NSD will declare your agency seriously deficient.

Course Description:

The Financial Management course reviews the requirements for financial management for child care centers participating in the CACFP.

The following topics are covered:

  • Financial viability
  • Fiscal management systems
  • Budgets
  • Program income
  • Allowable and unallowable costs
  • Recordkeeping
  • Civil rights requirements

The course is written in a user-friendly format and contains several activities and one final quiz. The estimated time to complete the course is one to two hours. Available Continuing Education Units (CEUs): 1.5

Course Registration:

The Financial Management online course is free. You will need your username and password to register for the online Financial Management course. You can confirm your registration at Profile Logon.

After registering, it will take approximately 24 hours for the course to become available at (You will need your username and password to access the course on Blackboard.) Registration requests received on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will be processed the following Monday.

The course will be available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day from July 8 through August 31, 2013. We encourage you to take the course as soon as possible to avoid last minute unforeseen circumstances (computer issues, power outages, etc.) that may interfere with your ability to complete the course before the deadline.

If you do not have a username and password, you will have to Create Your Account to obtain them. You need only one account, unless you work for more than one agency type (e.g., child care centers, day care home sponsoring agencies, etc.). You will need the exact name of your agency as it is listed in the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) to Create Your Account. Immediately after you submit your information, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from the FCC Cal-Pro-NET Center with your username and password. You will need this information to register for the course.

Editing Your Account Information:

  1. Do not create a new account.
  2. Notify the Cal-Pro-NET Center by e-mail at, or by phone at 559-489-2237 if you have information that needs to be changed, added to or deleted from your account/profile (e.g., new e-mail address, new phone number, etc.). The Cal-Pro-NET Center staff will update your records.
  3. Find account information/profile at Profile Logon

Certificate of Completion:

To receive a Certificate of Completion, your grade book must have grades for all of the activities and you must pass the final quiz with a score of 75 percent or higher.

After a member of the FCC Cal-Pro-NET Center staff verifies your successful completion of the course, an e-mail with instructions for printing your Certificate of Completion will be sent to you. Certificates of Completion should be kept in your agency’s training file.

Self-study Packets:

If you prefer not to take the course online, you may order a self-study packet for $15.00. Print the 2013 CACFP Mandatory Training Announcement for Child Care Centers. Complete the order form found on the back side of the announcement and mail it along with your payment to the FCC Cal-Pro-NET Center by August 9, 2013. The self-study packet will be mailed to you upon receipt of the completed form and payment. Your completed self-study packet must be received in the FCC Cal-Pro-NET Center by August 31, 2013. A Certificate of Completion will be mailed to you upon verification of your successful completion of the course.
