Help for Health Science Majors
We here in Health Service offer services designed to assist the Health Science major get their pre-requisite health requirements done in a timely, cost effective manner. In order to qualify for low or no cost services, you must provide proof you have been accepted into one of the Health Science Programs. You will need:
ü An acceptance letter addressed to you
ü Or proof of ongoing progress in a program - such as your registration,
ü Your immunization record. Often, California school districts include immunization records on high school transcripts.
Once you have provided proof of acceptance into FCC's:
Health Service can assist you with completing your check-off list.
The process continues as follows:
1. The student is given a referral for disease titers (MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B) Health Service has an agreement with a laboratory for low cost blood work. All of the above titers can be performed with a referral from Health Service for under $100.
2. If the student is low on immunity for any of the above diseases as evidenced by titer results, MMR and Hepatitis B or AB can be obtained in Health Service free of charge. The Varicella vaccine can be obtained in the community; Health Service has a list of providers.
3. Physicals can be obtained for $29 at Atlas Medical Group.
TB tests are given free of charge to currenlty registered students. Check with your program to see how often you need to update your TB clearance. TB tests are given, and read 48-72 hours later. Make an appointment for your TB test renewal if you need special consideration due to your clinical rotation schedule.
PLEASE NOT E THAT SOME IMMUNIZATIONS CONSIST OF A SERIES OF SHOTS. PLEASE COME TO HEALTH SERVICE AS SOON AS YOU ARE ACCEPTED TO YOUR PROGRAM TO ASSURE YOUR REQUIREMENTS ARE MET IN A TIMELY MANNER
