The FCC Training Institute provides phlebotomy training for CPT-1 licensure approved by California Laboratory Field Services.  This program exceeds state standards and provides 48 hours of theory and 120 hours of clinical rotation.  Gain hands-on experience of at least 100 successful venipunctures, 25 skin punctures, and 2 arterial observations.  Due to the high demand for this program, participants are chosen through a lottery.

What You'll Learn:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the major body systems
  • Laboratory safety and hazardous waste disposal
  • Infection control and universal precautions
  • Blood collection procedures and order of draw
  • Patient risk factors and complications
  • Legal issues related to blood collection

Program Requirements:

  • Attend the mandatory orientation (call for details)
  • Background check, drug screen, and immunizations (details at orientation)
  • Have a current CPR Card (American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers)
  • Participate in the lottery to be selected for the program

Advisory Notes:

  • The state of California may require criminal record clearance through fingerprinting when applying for licensure as a Phlebotomist
  • A high school diploma or GED is required for licensure by the State
  • This is a fee-based program that is not for college credit
