FCC Announces Don Lopez as its New Vice President of Instruction

State Center Community College District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Mr. Don Lopez to serve as Fresno City College’s new vice president of instruction at its monthly board meeting held on June 6.

“Mr. Lopez has spent the majority of his professional life advancing the mission of Fresno City College in a variety of leadership positions. His dedication and body of work is evidence of his commitment to promoting both staff development and student learning,” said Dr. Carole Goldsmith, president of Fresno City College. “As the leading learning institution in the valley, Don is the best person to serve as the next Vice President of Instruction. I have had the privilege of working with him for the past year and have seen first-hand his passion for ensuring Fresno City College's legacy as California's first community college. He will make an excellent Vice President.”

Since December 2015, Mr. Lopez has served as Fresno City College’s Interim Vice President of Instruction. Previous to that position, he was FCC’s Director of Technology beginning in 2006. Other positions during his 22-year career with SCCCD include Interim Associate Vice Chancellor, Workforce Development and Educational Services in 2010, and Associate Dean of Instruction for the Library at FCC in 2005. Mr. Lopez was also a faculty member at both the Clovis Center and Reedley College for ten years.

Mr. Lopez has participated extensively in institutional work as a committee member or chair for strategic planning at the campus and district, enrollment management at the campus and district, website development, three different accreditation sub-standards, technology at the campus and district, budget, program review, and distance education. He served as a member of the curriculum development team and as an Instructor for the Online Teacher Training Program that began in 2009 at Fresno City College. Mr. Lopez has also served on more than twenty-five hiring committees as a member and chair, from faculty and staff to College President and Chancellor of the State Center Community College District.

A Fresno City College alumnus, Mr. Lopez holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Finance with an emphasis in Securities Analysis and Computer Applications from California State University, Fresno.
