Two-Semester Option Program Description
The two-semester option Medical Assisting-Clinician Program is a comprehensive program that offers clinical training. The curriculum is designed for the student who desires employment and advancement in the medical facility assisting the physician with the examination and treatment of the patient. The two-semester option curriculum, beginning fall 2013, is a cohort-based program that focuses on the designated Medical Assisting courses. The clinical experience obtained in the two-semester option program opens the door to other medical career fields.

Associate in Science Degree Option
Students can pursue an Associates in Science degree from Medical Assisting. Additional general education and major courses will be needed for the two-year degree. MA-Clinician graduates are employed in physician offices, clinics, insurance companies, and surgery centers.

Students pursuing the Associates Degree option must complete general education requirements and the following MA curriculum:

Completion of the Program
Upon successful completion of the two- semester option MA-Clinician Program or the Associates Degree option, students are eligible to sit for the California Medical Assistant State Certification Examination.

Admission Requirements
Enrollment is limited in the Medical Assistant-Clinician Program. There are no restrictions as to age, race, sex or marital status. In order to qualify for admission to the program the applicant must have met all of the following conditions:

  • Graduated from high school with a minimum average of "C" (2.0) in high school or complete the General Educational Development (GED) test with an average Score of 45.
  • Have no physical impairments that would preclude the performance of all MA-Clinician duties.  Students will be required to submit evidence of a physical examination by a licensed physician.

Please Note: Background checks may be required dependent on clinical placement.  A negative result may impact placement in a hospital/clinic.
