General Information for Instrumental, Vocal, Guitar, and Piano Majors :

This program satisfies the requirements for the Associate in Arts degree with a major in music and the lower division course requirements at most California state universities.

Music majors must select one of the following areas of specialization:  instrumental, vocal, guitar, piano or commercial music.  Instrumental, vocal, guitar and piano majors must take Music 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 7A, 7B, 9, 13 and 18.  These majors must also take the appropriate Intermediate/Advanced class (see below) and participate in a Large Ensemble every semester they are enrolled as a Music major.

Instrumental majors (Major # 5810):
Brass:  Take Music 42A or 73A or 74A
Woodwinds:  Music 42B or 73B or 74B
Strings:  Music 42C or 73C or 74C
Percussion:  Music 42D or 73D or 74D

Vocal majors
(Major #5820):
Take Music 26 (voice) and Music 30 or 60 or 61 (choir).

Guitar majors (Major # 5830):
Take Music 29 (guitar) and Music 30 or 60 or 61 (choir) or Music 40 or 68 or 69 (band).

Piano majors (Major #5840):
Take Music 22 (piano) and Music 30 or 60 or 61 (choir) or Music 40 or 68 or 69 (band).
