WSTS 5 - SOCIOLOGY OF RAPE

A micro and macro overview of rape including the history of rape, a study of what creates a rape culture, characteristics and pathology of rapists, psychology of survivor, and current laws. The various forms of sexual assault, such as marital rape, male rape, and incest. (A, CSU)

WSTS 7 - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: ABUSE WITHIN THE FAMILY
3 unit, 3 lecture hour, (See also Human Services 7 and Sociology 7)

A micro and macro study of the historical and contemporary problem of domestic violence. Includes an overview of battered spouse syndrome, characteristics of the survivor and the batterer, therapy approaches, and current legislation. Information on child abuse, incest, and elder abuse is presented. (A, CSU)

WSTS 10 - CHANGING ROLES OF WOMEN
3 units, 3 lecture hours

An understanding of the traditional and changing roles of women in society. The effects of these roles on women as individuals, in personal relationships, and in their status in society. The contributions and often contrasting perspectives of minority/ethnic women. Major topics include socialization, history, art, language, politics, laws, economics, health, psychology, domestic violence, rape, and sexuality. (A, CSU-GE, UC, I)

WSTS 24 - LA CHICANA AND LATINA
3 units, 3 lecture hours, (See also Chicano-Latino Studies 24)

A sociological analysis of the Mexican American female in contemporary society. Special emphasis will be placed on her role in the family, in the church, in school, at work, and in politics. (A, CSU, UC)

How to become more effective and creative in expressing oneself in a courteous and dignified manner. Discovering the communication options available in various life situations. (A, CSU)

WSTS 30 - ASIAN-AMERICAN WOMEN

ADVISORY: Asian-American Studies 15, and eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended.

Historical experiences of early and later Asian immigrant women. Emphasis is on Asian American women today. Topics include growing up Asian American, relationship with parents, marriage, identity, raising children, doll image, voice, and American feminism. (A, CSU, UC)

An examination of the historical and contemporary roles of American working women. This includes housework as well as labor force participation, employment in traditional and non-traditional occupations, child care and parental leave issues, and career planning. (A, CSU)

A survey of the historical and contemporary contributions and issues of African-American women in America. (A, CSU, UC)

A study of the nature and scope of the chemically dependent female and her special problems. Effect of harmful chemicals on women, victimization, stigmatization, problems in recovery. (A, CSU)

The relationship between nutrition and various contemporary health issues affecting women. Significance of nutrition as it relates to the health of women during specific stages in the life cycle. Current trends and research. (A, CSU)

Management and entrepreneurial techniques for women seeking leadership skills, particularly for managers and those aspiring to executive levels. (A, CSU)

Career and educational development for the college student: assessment (testing), occupational information, and decision-making strategies. Emphasis: women over age 24 who are returning to school after a significant break in their education. (A, CSU)

How to locate job openings, prepare a personal resume and application letter. Practice in filling out applications techniques for job interviews. Exploration of related job topics such as job market and career implcations. Emphasis: Women over age 24 who are returning to school after a significant break in the education. (A, CSU)
