What You Need to Know Before Testing

All testing is conducted in English. Placement results will be available about 15 minutes after test completion. Retests are permitted after 3 months. Maximum: 3 placement test in 2 years.

English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) Testing

Students for whom English is their second language or who have lived in the United States for less than 10 years are advised to take the CELSA test. It is administered at the same time as the native speaker test.

Ability To Benefit (ATB)

ATTENTON:

Due to new Federal regulations, there will no longer be ATB testing available effective July 1, 2012. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at (559) 442-8245 for further information.

Computer Familiarity Test

Individuals seeking an AA/AS degree must complete a computer class or successfully pass the Computer Familiarity Test. FCC's CFT has 30 questions covering, File Management, Word Processing, and Info & Communication.

The CFT cost $25.00 and must be completed in 70 minutes. The CFT does not grant credit, units, nor serve as an IS prerequisite, but does meet graduation requirement.

The CFT is administered according to the English Placement test schedule or by appointment at 442-4600 X8078. There is a 2 week wait before retesting if a candidate is not successful.

Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS)

The majority of students receiving DSPS services need to take the FCC Assessment Test. (This is not the one-on-one diagnostic testing which is conducted by DSPS, but a placement test—how much do you know so you can be placed into the appropriate classes.) Since many DSPS students need accommodations to ensure their placement results truly reflect their skill level, special test dates and times have been established to ensure DSPS students can receive the accommodations their counselor has recommended.

If you are a DSPS student or think you may be eligible for DSPS services, please contact DSPS (2nd floor Student Services Bldg. or at 442-8237/8238) prior to testing. We must know what accommodations you are to be given.

Students must have an authorization note from a DSPS Counselor to test on these dates.
