DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to give students classroom instruction as well as practical "hands on" scenarios that teach the proper use of and legal aspects of radar enforcement. This course will meet the requirement for issuing radar citations under vehicle code section 40802(A). This section requires that all officers who issue radar citations have 24 hours of POST training on Radar use.

Course topics include:
1. Theory, history, laws and principals of modern radar use
2. Obtaining and maintaining "expert witness" status in court.
3. Radar deployment methods.
4. Radar calibration and testing.
5. Stationary and moving enforcement.
6. Speed estimation.
7. Radar and speed surveys
8. Practical radar exercises.

PREREQUISITES:
Completion of the Basic Police Academy, or sworn full-time Peace Officer.
