COURSE DESCRIPTION:
To familiarize the student with reasons why good communication skills are important and how to effectively communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Given a series of simulations, scenarios, handouts, role-plays, word pictures, case studies or other sets of facts depicting “employee and citizen” and “employee and co-workers” contacts, the student will participate in facilitated discussions. Areas covered include pertinent terminology, identifying reasons to use tactical communications, importance of listening skills, citizen expectations and complaints, spatial relationships and body language, handling verbal abuse, liability, professionalism, the andragogical and pedagogical learning styles and the art of persuasion.
PREREQUISITE:
This course of instruction is directed to individuals currently employed in a Public Safety Agency with
aspirations of Personal and Professional Growth.
