How long is the Basic Academy?
The Day Academy is 6-months, the Night Academy is 10-months.

How much will is cost to attend the Basic Academy?
The cost is approximately $2,500.00 to $3,500.00 depending on how much of the required equipment you already have.

When is the Basic Academy?
The Day Academy goes from January through June and a second Day Academy goes from June through December. The Night Academy goes from February through November, Monday through Thursday from 5:45 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How do I get into the basic class?
The first step is to come by the academy and pick up an application. Once you have completed it, then return it and sign up for testing. You will have to take a written and physical test. You must pass both.

What does the physical test consist of?
There is a 99 yard obstacle course, 500 yard sprint, 6 foot solid fence climb, 6 foot chain fence climb, and a 165 pound body drag.

How long is the test good for?
The written score is good forever, but the physical agility test is good for one year.

What are the requirements to get into the Basic Academy?

  1. You need to be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  2. If you have attended any colleges you need to be in good academic standing.
  3. You need to complete and submit the POST application.
  4. You need to successfully pass POST written English exam and physical agility tests.
  5. You must attend an interview.
  6. You must provide proof of: physical exam, electrocardiogram (EKG) print out, DMV printout, DOJ clearance for firearms possession.
  7. You must have a valid California driver's license.

Do I need to have a weapon?
Yes, you are required to have a firearm during the basic course.

Do I receive college credit for attending the Basic Academy?
Yes, upon satisfactory completion of the course you will obtain 30 college units.

I work during the day, are there night classes?
Yes, there is a night academy that meets Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The night basic class is approximately 10 months long.

Will I be hired by an agency immediately after I graduate?
Much depends on how many positions hiring agencies have to fill and how well you can sell yourself to recruiting agencies.

Are there night and weekend classes during the Day Academy?
Yes there are a few night classes and a couple of weekend days during the course of the day academy.

Where is the Police Academy?
It is located east of Ratcliffe Stadium (Fresno City College football stadium) and north of Euless Baseball park. Enter off of University Ave. or Cambridge Ave.

I'm a veteran, can I apply G.I. bill towards the cost of the program?
Yes, but you need to contact the college Veteran's Office for information and fill out any necessary paperwork.

Can I apply for Financial Aid?
Yes, but you need to get the application from the Financial Aid Office. They can also tell you if you qualify for any grants/loans.

When do I pay my fees?
After you have been registered in a class the college will bill the registration fees to you. You have approximately one week to pay your fees before you are dropped from class for non payment. Any additional costs, books, supplies, weapon, ammunition, etc. you will pay up front at the time of purchase.

Are there reserve classes offered?
Yes, the SCRTF offers only the first class in the modular Reserve Format.

What nights are the reserve classes?

  • Level 3 - Part 1 (PC 832) is offered once each semester, on Monday nights from 6 PM to 10 PM. This is a one night a week class. This class must be completed before taking part 2.
