Probation Officer Classes Probation Officer Core This is the basic training course for entry level probation officers, which meets STC requirements. This class is required for all probation officers and must be completed within the first year of employment. This class is only offered in the Intensive Format five days a week for five weeks. Areas covered includle: pedestrian approach, field interrogation, radio procedures, residence & building searches, advanced handgun, mental & physical readiness, edged weapons, gun retention, and introduction to the shotgun. Field Tactics II For Probation Officers The focus of this 24-hour course is to provide a probation officer with an overview of radio procedure, use of force, explosive identification and low speed defensive driving. The students will be provided with lecture on explosive recognition and observe an explosives demonstration and will participate in a low speed defensive driving course comprised of driving obstacles and maneuvers that probation officers may encounter during their tour of duty. You will also be required to attend an interview, have a valid California driver's license, and provide proof of: physical exam, electrocardiogram (EKG) print out, DMV printout, DOJ clearance for firearms possession.
