As we’ve been working together as a college to develop our self-evaluation report for a Spring 2018 accreditation site visit our strengths, as well as our gaps, have been brought to the forefront. One area that needs our immediate attention is the assessment of outcomes (Student Learning Outcomes and Service Unit Outcomes). Many of you have done some outstanding and exemplary work to assess learning and achievement, but it is apparent that we are still out of compliance with ACCJC’s Standards. The Standards now call for 100 percent assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs, and service unit outcomes in student service and administrative unit areas. Currently, we are significantly behind in meeting this requirement. We must also look at the disaggregated course and program level data.
As we close this semester, I encourage all of you to look at your assessment timelines and determine which courses still need to be assessed. If there are any assessments you can finalize this semester, please consider doing so. If not, please make plans to assess these courses by fall 2017.
We will also conduct some college-wide activities at convocation in January to complete program mapping, which will meet the Standard for program assessment. As this is a faculty led process, please work with your faculty leaders if you need assistance in facilitating this process, and, of course, administration will provide the necessary support.
