Here's What's New as the Fall Semester Begins August 12

Aug 9, 2019

August 12 is the first day of the Fall semester and there are still many open classes. Students will be able to add classes throughout the first two weeks of the semester by attending the classes and asking instructors to add them. If there is room in the class, the instructor will give the student an add slip.  Friday, August 30 is the last day to add a full-term class.

Here are a few items of note for the beginning of the semester.

Open Classes:

A number of classes have seats available as the semester begins including a number of online classes.  Look for openings in many business classes including accounting, computer information technology, marketing, and business administration. English, math, science, cultural studies, music, theatre arts and PE classes are also available.

FCC Everywhere, Bitwise Hive:

FCC continues to offer classes at off campus neighborhood sites. New this year are classes located at the Bitwise Hive, 2600 Ventura Street near downtown Fresno. The FCC Business Division has formed a new partnership with Bitwise to offer Computer Information Technology classes along with a variety of general education courses for the fall semester.

FCC continues to offer classes at Edison High School, Sunnyside High School, Kerman High School, and Fresno Pacific University North Campus. Start dates vary. Special registration events are planned prior to the beginning of classes at some of the sites.

Go to FCC Everywhere for more information.

Extended Hours:

Office hours are being extended in Admissions & Records, Business Office, Financial Aid, and Counseling for the first two weeks of the semester to assist students.  Check the FCC website for specific hours.

Tobacco Free Campus:

Fresno City College is now a tobacco-free campus.  No smoking of any kind is allowed on any college property on campus or off.  This comes following the adoption of a new resolution by the California Community College Board of Governors in 2018.  The State Center Community College District Board of Trustee in June adopted a board policy authorizing the ban. FCC is now in the process of removing all old signage regarding smoking and will soon install new signage.

Design Science Middle College High School:

We welcome to the campus this year the Design Science Middle College High School.  Classes and offices will be located in our Business Education building pending a future site on campus. The partnership between FCC and Fresno Unified School District’s Design Science Middle College High School began in 2005. Recently honored as a 2019 California Distinguished School, the high school is performing above and beyond the rest of the high schools in this service area. Twenty‑one of the 61 graduates of the class of 2019 earned an associate degree from FCC along with their high school diploma, 15 with honors.

Parking:

The FCC free parking shuttle will run August 12 to September 6, Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Students can take the free parking shuttle from Parking Lot X behind Ratcliffe Stadium (east of Blackstone Ave.) to five drop-off locations throughout the campus.  Pick-up is every 15 minutes at each stop.

Students can also get a free Fresno FAX bus pass with the purchase of an ASB card. The card is $5 each semester and offers students discounts at participating businesses around Fresno, along with the free FAX pass.

The Bolt to College pilot program for Kerman-area residents is no longer available. The grant funding has expired.
