The Fresno City College Photography Department will present the Hanna S. Barsam Excellence in Photography Award at Fresno City College in the Old Administration Building, Room 251 on April 27, 2023. Refreshments will be provided from 6 to 7 p.m. and the winner will be announced at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public! Parking permits are not necessary.
The FCC Photography Program will grant a $1500 cash award to one student that demonstrates excellence in photography. Enjoy refreshments while viewing an exhibition of this year's entries and join in on the excitement as we reveal the 2023 recipient of the award! This year's nominees are Patricia Mitchell, Tyrus Ramos, and Brett Schoenwald.
To be nominated, each applicant must submit a digital portfolio, must have completed 24 units in the FCC Photography Program, and must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0. Full-time faculty then nominate students to compete for the award. Once nominated, students submit both digital and printed portfolios to be judged by a panel of photo instructors, artists, and professionals.

About Hanna S. Barsam
Hanna S. Barsam was a Central Valley photographer, who devoted much of his life to his craft. Specializing in architectural photography, he started his career by taking photos of landscapes and scenes of everyday life. He had a keen eye for creating images that captivated and inspired the viewer. He was also a mentor to others and was sought after for his insight and creativity. Barsam received many awards for his work in both landscape and architectural photography.
In 2013, Mr. Ed Darden, Barsam estate executor, established an endowment with Fresno City College’s Photography Program. This endowment created the Hanna S. Barsam Award. A $1500 cash award offered every Spring to a photo student who demonstrates excellence in photography.
