First Fire Academy Graduation at New First Responders Campus

The Fresno City College Fire Academy will hold a completion ceremony for the first time at the First Responders Campus on December 15 at 6:00 p.m. for Fire Academy Class #60. The new First Responders Campus opened this fall semester at 3300 E. North Avenue in Fresno.

The class motto for Class #60 is New Blood, Old Traditions. Its 22 cadets have completed 1,004 hours of training required by the California State Fire Marshal’s Office Accredited Fire Academy to earn their Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications and numerous other certifications.

On the program are FCC College president Dr. Robert Pimentel, keynote speaker Battalion Chief Brian Price from the Fresno Fire Department, and Fire Academy Director Peter Cacossa. Class president Andrew Molina and class vice president Travin Webb will speak representing the cadets.

In addition, several awards will be presented:

  • Academic Excellence Award
  • Michael Collins Memorial Award
  • Captain Jim Deaver Scholarships
  • Captain Oney Durney Mentorship Award
  • Top Gun Award

Three cadets have been hired by the City of Tulare and Tulare County Fire Departments.  The nineteen other cadets also have internships after graduation with North Central, Selma, Sanger, Kingsburg, and Hanford Fire Department.  All will be acknowledged at the ceremony.

The long-awaited First Responders Campus opened in August 2023, bringing together all Fresno City College first responder programs in one location: Fire and Police academies and the Emergency Medical Training program (EMT).  The 40-acre site is located at 3300 E. North Avenue (northwest corner of North and Willow).
