The Traffic Accident Investigation Course is a 40-hour course designed to satisfy the requirements of 40600 (A) CVC. Each trainee, after completing this course will, when presented with simulated accident scenes, be able to investigate and complete an investigation report correctly utilizing proper forms to the satisfaction of the instructor.

Officers attending this course should already be familiar with the state's CIM (Collision Investigation Manual) and basic traffic accident investigation techniques.  Reports will be written using laptop computers and officers should bring a laptop to the course if possible.  There will be some laptops that can be checked out during the course.  

Prerequisites

A California Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Course certificate issued from an accredited regional police academy or equivalent as determined by the division Dean or their appointee. These skills and knowledge base are related to adopted POST and/or industry standards. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency.
