People-first language emphasizes the individuality, equity, and dignity of people with disabilities. Rather than defining people primarily by their disability, people-first language conveys respect by emphasizing the fact that people with disabilities are first and foremost just that-people.
In recognition of Disability Awareness Month, join the DSPS staff as we take the pledge to make changes in how we think and talk, and use People First Language to put the person first, not the disability.

The Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) office was established in 1970 to provide services for students with disabilities. Disability is but one aspect of diversity. DSPS is the designated department at Fresno City College to determine reasonable academic adjustments and modifications at the college. Through an interactive process, we work individually with students to provide access to classes, programs, and activities.
Requests for disability related accommodations for employees should be directed to his/her immediate supervisor. The disabled Students Program and Services facilitates accommodations to current SCCCD students only.
