I grew up in a military family and we moved a great deal. I got used to being the new kid in school. By the time I went to high school, I had attended 12 different schools. Hanford, CA is where I went to High School and from there to College of Sequoias in Visalia, CA. I received my bachelor's and master’s degrees from Fresno State. My first professional job was as a researcher with a University of California mosquito control research lab. From there I worked for the University of California running a biomedical research lab. Altogether, I conducted research with the University and several surgical departments for about 26 years. During that time, I was able to present the results of our research at many national and international professional meetings. I have published in numerous scientific journals. I started teaching at Fresno City College in 1995.
