The Central Valley Conference announced today the difficult decision to suspend all athletic competition for Fall 2020. Fresno City College is one of the colleges in the conference that will comply with this decision. This decision was made as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on our community and nation. (The official statement is below.
Athletics at FCC is an integral aspect of college life for our students and our community. This decision was made in an effort to keep our student athletes, staff and community members safe. Other Fresno City College services and educational programs are primarily online in the fall, with limited on-campus interaction.
The COVID-19 virus has impacted all aspects of our life. We continue to work with faculty, staff and county public health officials in an effort to support opportunities for our coaches and students to continue focusing on conditioning and academics.
This decision will affect ten teams in nine sports at Fresno City College: football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, wrestling, men’s and women’s cross country, water polo and men’s and women’s basketball.

Coronavirus cases continue to climb across our state, a shocking 69% rise in just two days and our region has witnessed record elevated levels of transmission and hospitalization. Citing concerns over their ability to adequately protect staff and student-athletes from the Coronavirus, the majority of schools in the Central Valley Conference (CVC) will suspend athletic competition for the fall 2020 semester. Colleges in the CVC wishing to compete may request to be hosted by another California community college athletic conference.
The Central Valley Conference offers 12 men’s sports and 12 women’s sports (some are hosted in other conferences due to a minimum number of teams) and is made up of the following 10 community colleges: Clovis Community College, Columbia College, Fresno City College, Merced College, Porterville College, Reedley College, College of the Sequoias, Taft College, West Hills College Coalinga, and West Hills College Lemoore.
