Career and Major Exploration

Introduction Into Career Services

  • What are Career Assessments? Career assessments are not tests! Assessments are designed to help you learn more about yourself - your interests, values, abilities, and career preferences. There are no wrong answers!
  • What is Career/Major Exploration? It is a way for you to explore pathways of interest by talking with a Career Counselor, researching occupations or jobs, and to help you select a major and career with confidence.
  • What is Career Counseling? Choosing a major and a career can be scary, and college can be intimidating! It's okay to feel confused. Career Counselors are here to provide guidance and support.
  • How to Make an Appointment: Career Counseling services are available to currently enrolled Fresno City College students. If you would like an appointment, please contact our office at 559-442-8294 or email cec@fresnocitycollege.edu.

Here is a decision-making strategy that may help you!

  • Define your goal.
  • Identify options and possible choices.
  • Gather information about each option and think about the facts.
  • Weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each choice.
  • Reach a thoughtful choice that will satisfy both your head and your heart.
  • Establish a plan of action. Decide what steps you will take, both short and long term, to reach your career goals.
  • Re-evaluate your plan as needed. Your plan will evolve and change as opportunities arise and as things change in our life.

*Ram Pathways*

FCC has grouped all of our majors into five pathways. Each pathway consists of a group of related programs of study based on similar core classes and career paths.  Pathways allow you first to determine an overall field of study, and then focus on a program or major to earn a certificate, associate degree, and/or prepare for transfer to a university. Click here for more information.
