2021 Undocumented Student Action Week at FCC

Oct 18, 2021

As the nation's largest post-secondary education system and serving the largest number of undocumented students within the state, California Community Colleges are committed to serving all students, regardless of immigration status.   The Fresno City College Dream Center opened in 2015 and was one of only five centers in the state at the time. Since then, the CCC Chancellor's office has directed all its colleges to provide centers or services to undocumented students, doubling its funding for this population of students.

This fall semester, Fresno City College is serving more than 600 students. Every year the number of student interest grows as well as the kinds of support that is needed.  Last year, through a special grant, free legal advice was awarded to our campus, as well as assistance for our Dreamers who showed interest in applying for DACA.

"Unfortunately, the effort of helping our FCC students who wanted to work under DACA while going to college was cut short due to the ruling in Texas last year. We continue to push for DACA to be looked at again, so our students could work while going to school and contribute to this country we all love" said Bernardo Reynoso, Director of TRIO and the Dream Center.  "The good thing is that our students all feel the support from our center, our faculty, staff and peers. In the meantime, we are here to support them academically and in their futures.”

Below is a schedule of events that will be held virtually on Zoom, except where noted.
