The Fresno City College Fire Academy will celebrate the graduation of Class #55 this Friday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. The indoor/outdoor ceremony for 33 cadets will be held on the Fire Academy grounds at the Career and Technology Center located at 2930 East Annadale Avenue, Fresno, CA 93725. All COVID-19 protocols will be followed. Face masks are required.
According to Peter Cacossa, Fire Academy director, Class #55 began their training on January 4, 2021. The cadets successfully completed the Fire Academy’s 1004-hour intensive format passing the State Fire Training’s 2019 Firefighter 1 and 2 curriculum as well as Wildland firefighting, HAZMAT, Low Angle Rope Rescue, Firefighter Survival, Vehicle Extrication, and Rescue Operations.
The Fire Academy is accredited by The Office of the State Fire Marshal and State Fire Training to present the basic academy course. A graduate is eligible to be hired as a firefighter anywhere in California, as well as the United States and the Department of Defense. Currently, there are members of class #55 who will have jobs upon graduation, two with Marin County Fire, three with the North Central Fire Protection District, and two with CalFire. A number of cadets also have internship opportunities with North Central Fire Protection District (8) as well as Kingsburg Fire (5).
