7th Annual Undocumented Student Action Week 2023

The Fresno City College Dream Center Migrant Student Support Success Services team and students are hosting events for the 7th Annual Undocumented Student Action Week from Monday, October 16, 2023, through Friday, October 20, 2023. The week is intended to help staff and students build collaborations, create a sense of belonging and purpose on campus, and assist undocumented students.

The week will feature inclusive events to enable people of all abilities to fully engage and provide awareness. Students will have the opportunity to engage in the USAW Kick Off, a Meet and Greet with Dreamers, a Statewide Financial Aid Workshop, a Multiple Artistic Expression exercise, and a trip to UC Berkeley.

Fresno City College and the California Community College Chancellor Sonya Christian will kick off the 7th Annual Undocumented Student Action Week at an in-person event on the FCC campus on Monday, October 16. The all-day event titled “Creating a Sense of Belonging for Undocumented Students,” takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm in the Old Administration Building Auditorium.

Supporters of undocumented students from all the state’s 116 community colleges are expected to attend. The event is free. Lunch will be served. Registration is still available.

Tuesday, October 17 -Meet and Greet with Dreamers- (In person)

OAB West Courtyard

This is a time to meet and greet Dream Center students. Join us for tacos, music, resource tables, and to show your support to undocumented students. All are welcome.  No reservation is required.

Wednesday, October 18 – Statewide Financial Aid Workshop- (In person)
No Registration Required
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
OAB Auditorium

All staff and educators are invited to attend this free half-day training with the California Student Aid Commission in collaboration with the Dream Center.  Receive relevant financial aid information on the 2024-2025 FAFSA and the Dream Act application to better support students to apply for and receive financial aid for college. No registration is required. 

Thursday, October 19- Multiple Artistic Expression- (In person)

Join the Dream Center and the Latino Faculty and Staff Association to celebrate Latinx heritage through music, art, food, Lotería and the poetry of Aidee Medina at this “come-and-go” event. No registration is required. These activities will commemorate the lives of those who’ve passed while crossing the border, leaving loved ones behind. This event is open to everyone.

Aidee Medina is a Pushcart Prize nominated poet, award winning spoken word artist and a playwright. She is a California Naturalist, and practices “flor y canto" as part of her poetic process and exploration of California’s natural history. Her work has appeared in Fresno State's Club Austral Literary Magazine, Chicano Writers and Artists Association Journal, and Nueva York Poetry, as part of a collection of original art songs composed for The Opera Remix, Fresno Grand Opera, along with many others. Currently featuring her work on stage at The Carl Cherry Center For the Arts in Carmel, CA in Encounter Intuitive, and is the author of two forthcoming poetry collections: Segmented Bodies, from Prickly Pear Press, and 31 Hummingbirds, from Xingao Press, 2023.

Friday October 20 – UC BERKELEY TRIP for Dream Center and International Students
The Dream Center and International Students Office will take students to learn about student engagement, campus tours, and transfer steps to the UC system for international and Dream students in this off-campus trip to UC Berkeley.
