Fresno City College will bring together high school groups from around the valley and state to participate in a friendly Mariachi and folklórico competition at the High School Mariachi Festival on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Prizes will be awarded to the top schools. The festival will be held in Ratcliffe Stadium from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The festival will include food trucks, vendors and Fresno City College information for students and their families.
The event is designed to bring high school students together to showcase their talents on a professional stage and to have fun. These students have worked hard in school and at home to build their dance and musical confidence.
Mariachi groups include McLane, Kerman, Orosi, Delhi, Woodlake, Mira Monte (Bakersfield), and Roosevelt high schools. Also performing are groups from Ilusion de Watsonville, Ezequiel Tafoya Alvarado Academy (Madera), and Mariachi Mexico de Gilroy.
The folklórico line up currently includes Roosevelt HS, Central HS, FCC Folklórico, Fowler HS, Grupo Folklórico Tanguu Yu, and Washington Union HS.
Tickets are $10 for adults. Children 10 years old and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased at all participating high schools, the FCC Student Activities office, and at the door. Tickets can also be purchased on Eventbrite.
Parking is free in the FCC parking lot structure at Blackstone and Weldon.
At 11:00 a.m. a community welcome will be given by FCC President Dr. Robert Pimentel, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, District 5 councilmemeber Luis Chavez, and the Mexican Consulate and the El Salvador General consulate in Fresno.
