Fresno City College Names Scheidt Interim Head Football Coach, Brown Interim Football Recruiting Coordinator and Anderson Interim Head Soccer Coach

The Fresno City College Athletic Department has named key interim appointments across its football and men's soccer programs, ensuring strong continuity and stability as the department initiates a formal hiring process for each coaching position. 

Rick Scheidt has been named the Interim Head Football Coach, effective immediately. Additionally, Drew Brown has been appointed Interim Football Recruiting Coordinator, and Nick Anderson has been named Interim Men’s Head Soccer Coach. 

“Both Coach Scheidt and Coach Brown embody the values, work ethic, and commitment that define Fresno City College Athletics,” said Dr. Derrick Johnson, Associate Dean of Physical Education and Athletics. “Their leadership during this transition will ensure stability for our student-athletes and continued excellence for our football program.” 

Nick Anderson has been an assistant coach for men’s soccer team since 2006. He was a soccer student athlete at Cal Poly where he received a BS. He then earned an MA in Kinesiology at CSU Fresno.  Santiago Aguilera has been named the interim men’s soccer team recruiting coordinator and is the current head coach for the Fresno Fuego.  He has been an assistant at FCC since 2021 and has a ATFA PRO License issued by the Argentinian Federation and is recognized by FIFA and has additional coaching certifications. He earned a BS in Exercise Physiology from the University Connecticut.

While Dr. Johnson’s quote specifically addresses the football and soccer programs, these interim assignments demonstrate the department's commitment to seamless transitions across all teams. Formal searches for the permanent head coaching positions will be conducted in accordance with State Center Community College District (SCCCD) guidelines, ensuring a fair, transparent and a thorough selection process.

Coach Scheidt brings extensive experience and a deep connection to Fresno City College football:

• 30 years coaching football at Fresno City College, including 27 years alongside former Head Coach Tony Caviglia.
• Served as both Offensive and Defensive Coordinator at various times during his tenure.
• Coordinated the kicking game.
• Holds a B.S. in Business Administration from San Francisco State University and an M.A. in Kinesiology from CSU Fresno.
