Fresno City College to Host National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week with Week-Long Series of Resource Events for students

Fresno City College (FCC) will host a comprehensive series of events from Monday, November 17, through Friday, November 21, 2025, in recognition of National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (NHHAW). Presented by FCC's Basic Needs department and campus and community partners, the week is dedicated to raising awareness, connecting students to vital resources, and taking action toward ending hunger and homelessness in our local community. 

"National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (NHHAW) is a crucial opportunity for our entire campus community to come together," said Dr. Kizzy Lopez, the Director of the FCC Basic Needs Department. "Our goal is to ensure every student knows where to find support, understands the resources available, and feels empowered to connect with services that can help them succeed," she added. 

Key Events and Activities

The week's programming is designed to offer direct support, educational opportunities, and community engagement to all FCC students.

Monday, November 17: Breakfast To-Go Kickoff

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Veterans Square
Free grab-and-go breakfast, pastries, and hot drinks for students, along with an information table promoting all NHHAW events and Basic Needs services.

Tuesday, November 18: Panel Discussion on Homelessness & Pop-Up Pantry

Pop-Up Pantry: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | New Science Building Plaza area Promoting food security resources and connecting students with local food banks and distribution locations.

Panel: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM | OAB 114 (Tabling at West Law) Hosted with the Social Justice Center and Student Activities, featuring local advocates, students with lived experience, and community housing organizations.

Wednesday, November 19: Fresno County Sign-Up Day

11:00 am – 1:00 pm | Old Administration Building, room 114

On-campus enrollment support for critical county resources, including CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, and General Relief. Lunch will be provided for those students who complete the workshop, until supplies last.

Thursday, November 20: Big Resource Fair 

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Main Campus

A large-scale resource event featuring numerous local nonprofits and agencies such as Community Food Bank, Poverello House, City Center, Fresno EOC, and more. The event is also scheduled to include the CRAVE Culinary Food Truck and a pop-up clothing closet hosted by the Social Work Club.

Friday, November 21: Staff & Faculty Lunch & Learn

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Old Administration Building, room 251 

A professional development session to equip faculty and staff with resources and engagement strategies for supporting students facing hunger and homelessness in the classroom and through referrals. 

Fresno City College encourages all students, faculty and staff to participate in these critical events to foster a more supportive and aware campus community.
