Last week, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas ruled against Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and said the program was unlawful. For many DACA recipients, the United States is the only home they have ever known. At Fresno City College (FCC) we will continue to support our DACA and Dreamers and will advocate for the permanent protection that they need and deserve.
As strong allies to our DACA and Dreamers, next month FCC will proudly host an in-person event for Undocumented Student Action Week in partnership with the State Chancellor’s Office. The kickoff is designed for faculty and allies and will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023. This free event will include a resource fair, a discussion focusing on providing access for undocumented students and an undocumented student panel. Creating Belonging for Undocumented Students is the theme and focus.
Virtual events are planned for the rest of the week and many are one-hour sessions. I encourage you to register for this event and learn how to support these students. I hope to see many of you there, if you have any questions please let us know.
