The Advanced Technology Vehicles (ATVs) certificate has the potential for entry-level employment as a skilled technician in alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles for the light/medium/heavy-duty transportation industry. A potential resource for investigating jobs in the Advanced Technology Vehicles field is O*Net Online
The Alternative Fueled Vehicle and Zero Emission Vehicle certificates are “stackable” certificates, meaning that your successful completion of this certificate can be used to apply for additional automotive/diesel/MDHD-related certificates, and/or the Automotive Technology/Diesel Technology/MDHD associate degree.
The Alternative Fueled Vehicle and Zero Emission Vehicle certificates are “stackable” certificates meaning that your successful completion of these certificates can be used as valuable training in conjunction with other automotive-related certificates such as Automotive Technology or Diesel Technology/MDHD.
If cross-training is not of interest, these courses in the Alternative Fueled Vehicle and Zero Emission Vehicle certificates are applicable to the Automotive Technology/Diesel Technology/MDHD associate degree as well as transfer potential for the Industrial Technology bachelor’s degree at Fresno State. When the student applies for a bachelor’s degree program, the 4-year institution of higher education would make the decision as to which courses are fully transferable. Consult with a college counselor in order to discuss these opportunities.
This Advanced Technology Vehicles program uses the same registration system as all California Community Colleges. A student must apply through CCCApply, if not already a California Community College student, in order to receive a student identification number. Once you have a student identification number, we can arrange for a counselor appointment to discuss the program and/or assist with registration through WebAdvisor.
The Alternative Fueled Vehicle and Zero Emission Vehicle certificates are designed to deliver thirteen courses for a total of 32 units, over a period of 12 months. This equates to 12 units per semester and 8 units during the summer session.
The Advanced Technology Vehicles program prepares students to qualify for National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) industry certifications.
The Advanced Technology Vehicles program instructor(s) can assist with job placement opportunities. Each term you will participate in Work Experience courses, AUTOT-19, for a paid or unpaid internship to build your resume and begin working in your field of study.
