Black History Month

Feb 1, 2022

The theme for Black History Month at Fresno City College this year is "Calling on the Excellence of Our Own."  With that theme in mind, FCC will tap into the talents and expertise of our own staff, faculty and alumni to make this Black History Month memorable and meaningful.

Black History Month events will begin on Tuesday, February 1 with a virtual Kickoff from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. The opening ceremony will include remarks about Black History Month by Jewell Riversmith, President of the African American Faculty and Staff Association; a keynote address by Interim President Dr. Marlon Hall and a musical performance by the Fresno City College City Singers.  All are welcome. Other events will include presentations focusing on the impact of the pandemic on Black lives, health and fitness, mental health issues, Black entrepreneurs and professionals, and equity in education.  A student panel on our registered nursing program will give insight into opportunities for African Americans preparing for the medical field. The HBCU Caravan is scheduled to visit the campus on February 22 giving students the opportunity to be accepted for admission right on the spot and earn lucrative scholarships to help with tuition.

Events will be virtual, except where noted.

Events are planned throughout the month.  The schedule is subject to change.
