High School Equivalency Preparation

Tuition free High School Equivalency Preparation Classes (HiSET) are for students who want to get their credential. The HiSET credential is equivalent to a high school diploma in California. The HiSET credential may qualify you for Financial Aid and help you get on track for college and careers.

The class reviews the five examination content areas:

  • Language Arts- Reading
  • Language Arts- Writing
  • Social Science
  • Mathematics
  • Science

Instructors will assess individual skill levels to help the student focus on tutoring weaknesses into strengths.

It is highly advised that students interested in these courses complete an Application/Orientation Session with a counselor. Please see below for more information.

**Currently FCC does not administer the examination. We are not a testing site.

The High School Equivalency Preparation Course- (LA-360) is self-paced course offered in a hybrid format. Hybrid courses require students to attend a portion of the course, on campus/in person, and a portion of the course online during specific days and times.

The instructor will have weekly meeting times available for students to discuss assignments, troubleshoot issues, etc.

Students should expect to spend at least 3 hours weekly on Lessons & Practices/Drills
prior to taking each subskill Post test.

This course is an OPEN ENTRY/EXIT course. The goal is to complete at the end of the semester. However, if you're unable to complete the course in one semester, you maybe re-enrolled in the following semester.

LA 360 does not have a required textbook.

The High School Equivalency Preparation Course- (LA-360) is a tuition free course

Students are responsible for the Campus Health Fee ($21 for hybrid/on campus or $13 for solely off campus), ASB ($2), other materials, etc.

*All fees are subject to change. Changes may result from California legislation or SCCCD Board of Trustee actions. Actual amounts for instructional material fees, health fees, and books and supplies will vary depending on the student’s enrollment.

Students are responsible for testing fees associated with the HiSET examination.

In California, the HiSET test fee is $12.75 per computer-based subtest and $17 per paper-based subtest (there are 5 subtests). The California state administrative fee of $20 and test center fees are not included in the HiSET test fees. Test center fees vary.
