FCC LGBTQ+ Safe Zone Training
A Safe Zone is a space where everyone is included, heard, and respected. For this training specifically, the focus is on the LGBTQ+ community, and how FCC staff, faculty, and administrators can better support the community through allyship, action, and intentionality. While no public space can be guaranteed safe, individuals who complete the Safe Zone training and display the FCC Safe Zone logo identify themselves as a supportive and safe ally. You communicate that others can openly confide in you about their identities and experiences. You don't need to be an expert to display the logo. However, it indicates your commitment to ally-ship with the LGBTQ+ community. We'll explore what ally-ship means in the Safe Zone training session.
These trainings provide information and resources related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Safe Zone trainees:
-
Develop an increased comfort level with concepts and language related to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and LGBTQ+ communities.
-
Identify ways to support LGBTQ+ students in their professional roles.
-
Improve their ability to recognize and interrupt Queer and Trans harassment and oppression.
The FCC Pride Center is developing a campus plan to offer trainings based on professional role, however if you believe your area would benefit from a personalized training, please complete this form and a Pride Center staff member will reach out to you.
To request a basic Safe Zone training for your program or department, please complete this form.

Formed in 2023, The Gender and Sexuality Alliance was created as a student-run social club that creates an inclusive and safer social group for queer students at Fresno City College to meet and create community on campus, hoping to foster a deeper connection to other fellow college students. We meet weekly to discuss our lives and experiences as queer students and participate in activities as a group to foster familiarity and companionship, as well as plan for future events hosted by the club. We would love to have you come by and make some new friends!

-
No! The Pride Center is open to all LGBTQ+ students and allies. Unless specified as CHEL-specific, events are open to all members of the FCC community who want to learn and spend time together!
-
-
Do I need to identify as LGBTQ to be a part of CHEL?
-
No, we welcome allies!
-
-
Is the Pride Center a confidential space?
-
While we do our best to create a safe and welcoming space in the Pride Center, all staff are mandated reporters for concerns about sexual violence, domestic violence, stalking, and harm to self or others. We can explain what that means for your situation, and connect you with the appropriate individuals (on and off campus) and resources if needed. Come into the Pride Center and ask to speak with Jessica or Linda about a personal matter.
